2018 Great Bungay Duck Races - Terms and Conditions

The organisers of this event are Trustees of the Falcon Meadow Community Trust (FMCT), assisted by volunteer supporters of the charity. All proceeds will contribute to repaying the loans that enabled FMCT to purchase Falcon Meadow on behalf of the local community.

The following terms and conditions will be applied to the three duck races to be held on Sunday 8th July 2018.

1. The Great Duck Race:
1.1. This event is registered under the Gambling Act 2005 with Waveney District Council Reg No 15/086.

1.2. The race will start around 3pm with the release of a fleet of plastic ducks of the same make and size.

1.3. The race will take place on a section of the River Waveney alongside Falcon Meadow.

1.4. The start line will be above the Staithe weir, with the length being determined by the organisers to reflect the water conditions  on the day of the race. Subject to conditions, the finish will be below the weir.

1.5. Each duck will be identifiable by a unique number marked on its base. This number will correspond to a printed raffle ticket, specifically printed for this year’s event.

1.6. Raffle tickets will cost £2 each and will be sold by organisers, volunteers at local retail outlets and community events in advance of the race, but no later than 2:30pm on the race day.

1.7. Each raffle ticket will correspond to one duck being entered by the organisers into the race on behalf of the purchaser. There is no requirement for entrants to attend the event for their duck to be entered.

1.8. There is no limit to the number of raffle tickets an individual may buy.

1.9. Race marshals will be on hand to start the event and guide the ducks down the course. The marshals will endeavour to retrieve stuck and trapped ducks to enable them to continue to proceed down the course

1.10. Marshals will be on hand to identify and retrieve the first four ducks to touch the finish line in respective order. In the event of a close finish, the marshals’ decision is final.

1.11. The purchasers of the corresponding raffle tickets to the first four ducks will be deemed the respective prize winners.

1.12. Prizes will be allocated as follows:

• 1st place - £150*

• 2nd place - £100#

• 3rd place - £75*

• 4th place - £25*

# Donated by Clays Ltd

1.13. The race organisers reserve the right to cancel or abort the race due to a major incident or circumstance beyond the control of the organisers. In such a situation, the places and prize winners will subsequently be determined by a standard raffle draw using the original tickets sold. Details of the draw will be communicated on the FMCT website

1.14. The event is intended to be a light-hearted and entertaining community event. In this spirit, the race organisers reserve the right to offer bonus prizes (in addition to those listed in 1.12) on the day. The rules for bonus prizes will be determined by the organisers and/or prize donors and may not be publicised in advance.

2. The Business Duck Race:
2.1. The race will start around 1:30pm with the release of a fleet of plastic ducks of the same make and size on a section of the River Waveney alongside Falcon Meadow.

2.2. The course will be determined by the organisers to reflect the water conditions on the day of the race and the level of enthusiasm shown by the ducks.

2.3. Ducks can be purchased in advance at a cost of £50 each. The duck will then belong to the owner and can be re-entered into future business duck races at a reduced cost. This year the re-entry fee is £25.

2.4. Owners are encouraged to customise their ducks to a design or their choosing. However, as this is a family event, the race organisers reserve the right to impound any duck that is behaving inappropriately.

2.5. Ducks will be invited to a photoshoot a week or two before the event. Photos will then be displayed on the FMCT website and may be used for media/marketing purposes.

2.6. Owners are responsible for ensuring their duck is presented to the race organisers before noon on race day. Where possible the organisers will endeavour to assist with the collection of ducks before the race day if you liaise with your FMCT contact.

2.7. Race marshals will be on hand to start the event and guide the ducks down the course. The marshals will endeavour to retrieve stuck and trapped ducks to enable them to continue to proceed down the course

2.8. Marshals will be on hand to identify and retrieve the first three ducks to touch the finish line in respective order. In the event of a close finish, the marshals’ decision is final.

2.9. The race organisers reserve the right to cancel or abort the race due to a major incident or circumstance beyond the control of the organisers.

3. The Puddleduck Race – Sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents
3.1. The Puddleduck event is in two parts; a fancy-dress competition and a river race. The fancy dress competition will be judged soon after 1:30pm and the river race will start around 2:15pm

3.2. The Puddleduck event is for children and families only. We will not accept Puddleduck entries that in anyway promote businesses, clubs or other organisations. This applies to both the fancy dress competition and river race. The organisers reserve the right to determine what constitutes inappropriate promotion.

3.3. The fancy dress competition: Ducks can be purchased in advance at a cost of £5 each. The duck will then belong to the owner. Only official FMCT ducks purchased this year may be entered into the fancy dress competition.

3.4. Owners are encouraged to customise their ducks to a design or their choosing. However, as this is a family event, the race organisers reserve the right to impound any duck that is behaving inappropriately.

3.5. Owners are responsible for ensuring their duck is presented to the race organisers before 1pm on the day with their name, phone number and age clearly marked on the base of the duck.

3.6. By entering a duck, the owner consents to photos being taken which may be displayed on the FMCT website and used for media/marketing purposes.

3.7. You can enter ducks into either the children’s or adults’ competition. Children’s ducks will be judged by age group categories which are:

• Age group 1-3

• Age group 4-7

• Age group 8-11

• Age group 11+

• Best family duck (for ducks decorated jointly by children and parents)

Adult ducks will be judged in the following categories – but you do not need to specify which:

• Best Dressed Duck

• Most Topical Duck

3.8. A trophy will be awarded to the winner of each category.

3.9. The river race: the course will be determined by the organisers to reflect the water conditions on the day of the race and the level of enthusiasm shown by the ducks and their owners.

3.10. The river race is an open event, so for a fee of £2 individuals can enter their own ducks, whether purchased from FMCT in a previous year or elsewhere. There is no additional charge for official FMCT ducks entered in the fancy dress competition.

3.11. When presenting an official FMCT 2018 duck, you will be asked whether you are just entering the fancy dress competition or if you would also like your duck to enter the river race. Those ducks not participating in the race will be placed in an area of safety.

3.12. Race marshals will be on hand to start the event and guide the ducks down the course. The marshals will endeavour to retrieve stuck and trapped ducks to enable them to continue to proceed down the course

3.13. Marshals will be on hand to identify and retrieve the first three ducks to touch the finish line in respective order. In the event of a close finish, the marshals’ decision is final.

3.14. Medals will be awarded to the first three placed ducks.

3.15. The race organisers reserve the right to cancel or abort the fancy dress competition and/or the river race due to a major incident or circumstance beyond the control of the organisers.
